Cymbidium

Origin of the Zygopetalum;

The Zygopetalum is multiplied by seeds and via meristeem. The advantage of the meristeem is its pure leaves.  Seed cultivation often causes  brown tips and spotted leaves. This results in many flowers of very different colours. Most colours vary between   wine red and  a brownish purple. The Zygopetalum is a scented orchid. This orchid craves a light location, but not direct sunlight. Once a week watering is sufficient.

Origin of the Cymbidium;

The Cymbidium is found in the tropical areas of Nepal, Vietnam, Taiwan, Australia and the Himalayan mountains. They grow between rocks, leaves and tree trunks. The plants are multiplied in a laboratory. Cymbidiums are available in a wide range of colours, for example white, yellow, green and red or combinations of these colours.

The country of origin is Colombia. It grows there on the river banks. The wild Miltonia species are hybrids and these hybrids are selected for further multiplication based on durability form and colour. The Paphiopedilum is also known as the Venus Slipper. It orginates from tropical Asia and Central America. In order to protect itself from the sun the Paphiopedilum grows, in shady areas, for example between rock and at the foot of plants and trees. the Paphiopedilum species are hybrids which are cultivates primarily for their durability and are further selected based on form and colour. They are available in various colours. The Paphiopedilum usually has a single flower per stalk.
The Paphiopedilum USA, also called American Hybride, has very big flowers until a diameter of 15 cm.
