| Orgin of the Oncidium |

The Oncidium grows in South-America, e.g. in Brazil on trees and in rock crevices. It is popularly known as '' The dancing princess" or tiger orchid.
If you look carefully at the Oncidium flower you dont need a lot of imagination to see the origin of this name. Oncidiums are mostly yellow, but are found in other colours as well. Their flowers are smaller than most other Orchid species. Each branch of the Oncidium has many flowers.

The Oncidium needs a lot of light, but cannot withstand direct sunlight in the summer. Lighter, bleached or burnt leaves are signs of excessive sun exposure. Submerge the plant in tepid water once a week to remedy this.
In the growth period (march until september) add orchid feed to the water once a month. The plant grows air roots that should not be removed. If the Oncidium has blossomed a pseudo bulb is formed. If the bulb is hard and totally full, give the plant less water, about half the normal amount. This gives the plant time to rest so that new buds can grow.
