The Paphiopedilum is also known as the Venus slipper. It orginates
from tropical Asia and Central America. In order to protect
itself from the sun, the Paphiopedilum grows, in shady areas
, for example between rock and at the foot of plants and trees.
The Paphiopedilum species are hybrids which are cultivates primarily
for their durability and are further selected based on form
and colour. They are available in various colours. The Paphiopedilum
usually has a single flower per stalk.

| Care
of the Paphiopedilum |
|
|
 |
Cut the flower stalk after the blooming period. A new bud can
be formed from the new shoot. De Paphiopedilum likes a temperature
between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius. Paphiopedilum likes to be
misted, but this is not as crucial as for other orchid species.
Give these plants a lot of space, their leaves should not come
into contact with other plants, to avoid damage. Shade and sufficient
ventilation are very important. About 15-20 % sunlight is sufficient,
but avoid direct exposure to the leaf. Paphiopedilums should
not be allowed to dehydrate.
